New Years Eve will never be the same again.
On New Year's Eve 2007, Agatha was born prematurely via an emergency caesarean after suffering heart failure during the early stages of labour.
Agatha was born almost 3 months early and would not have survived without the expert care she received in the Neonatal Unit (NNU) of St. George's Hospital, London.
Agatha was not breathing when she was born. It took the team 90 minutes to resuscitate her and put her onto a life support machine.
One step forward two steps back.
Agatha suffered complete heart failure, a brain haemorrhage, chronic lung disease (which left her oxygen dependant until October 08), an open heart duct, life threateningly high blood pressure and an immature gut; yet despite this, with the use of specialist equipment and the expertise and dedication of the staff she survived against all odds and came home after 14 weeks.
Agatha took the last incubator in the NNU before it closed to any new admissions for nearly 48 hours. She was truly fortunate to be born in a hospital which had a space and the highly specialised life support equipment needed to save her precious life.
Fast Forward One Year
Agatha was in hospital for over 100 days and came home feeding via a tube and dependant on home oxygen. It has been the toughest year anyone could imagine but we are the fourtunate ones. Agatha fought & lived! A year later she is no longer oxygen dependant and happily feeding without a tube! She is a beautiful, spirited baby with all her life ahead of her.
